On Saturday, guests gathered at the Kentucky Horse Park for the unveiling of “The Bond: Two Hearts–One Spirit,” a monument honoring the extraordinary connection between Cody Dorman and the remarkable racehorse, Cody’s Wish. 💙
The bond between Cody’s Wish and Cody Dorman began in 2018 when the Dorman family visited Godolphin’s Gainsborough Farm through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The young foal, later named Cody’s Wish, approached Cody, who was born with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome and used a wheelchair for mobility. From that moment, a lifelong connection was formed. Cody’s Wish went on to become a Breeders’ Cup and Grade 1-winning champion, while Cody Dorman’s courage and joy captured the hearts of fans worldwide.
Created by renowned equine sculptor Jocelyn Russell, The Bond celebrates a relationship that transcended sport, disability, and circumstance. The life-sized bronze captures Cody’s Wish lowering his head as he so often did for Cody, a gesture that ignited a spark in both of their hearts and continues to inspire all who hear their story.
The monument is thoughtfully designed so that visitors in wheelchairs can roll up, place their hands on the horse’s nose, and meet the gaze of Cody’s Wish, a reflection of Cody Dorman’s own experience. Cody’s friend, Carson Jost, and his family were the first to take a photo with the monument.
Guests visiting the Kentucky Horse Park can view “The Bond: Two Hearts–One Spirit” near the Hall of Champions Barn. Cody’s story, and the bond he shared with his best friend, will forever live on here at the Park.
